About the Committee
INTRODUCTION
Documentation, Archives and Exhibition Committee of Asutosh College is responsible to manage various documents, to arrange them in a systematic way, and to enable documents be created, shared, stored and retrieved efficiently and effectively. The Committee is established with the purpose to simplify the process of documents/records maintenance, use and retrieval. The Committee decides on matters relating to archives and exhibitions programming, and schedule the operations of special programming.
The role of the Committee is significant insofar as it documents records and data by classifying, storing, and organizing. The Committee further looks after to secure fragile historical data from destruction and assures accessibility and readability for future.
THE BEGINNING
The Documentation, Archives and Exhibition Committee was initially set up as an associate committee of the Publication Division, now Publication Cell, formed on the eve of the sesquicentennial Birth Anniversary Celebration of Sir Asutosh Mukherjee, the Founder-President of the College. The Committee started their work from 2013 by Smt. Mahasweta Das Sharma (History) and associate members.
After retirement of Smt. Mahasweta Das Sharma (Department of History) in November, 2015, Smt. Raikamal Dasgupta (English), Convener of the Publication Cell, was given charge of the committee. Since its inception the committee has held several meetings, all presided over by the Principal.
OBJECTIVES
- To maintain records by classifying, storing, securing fragile historical data and to assure accessibility and readability for future.
- To simplify the activities, systems, and processes of records maintenance, use and future reference.
- To reduce lost and misfiled documents, and to provide retrieval of documents.
- To better organize existing documents, and to allow instant access to documents.
